frequently asked questions

Microsuction FAQ

Ear microsuction entails the use of a gentle vacuum machine to leave the ear free of wax. Our ear wax removal specialists use a microscope that allows us to see clearly into the ear to carry out the procedure. The end results for the patient are better hearing and cleaner ears.

Microsuction should not cause any pain or discomfort. However, due to the sensitive nature of the ear canal, extra care is taken to avoid touching the surface so as to prevent discomfort. No anaesthetic or analgesia is generally used to perform the procedure. The suction can sound relatively noisy. If you have an ear infection or inflammation in the ear canal, the procedure may be slightly uncomfortable.

Its a very quick procedure, normally taking only around 15 minutes to complete. In very few difficult cases more than one appointment may be needed due to the nature of extremely hard impacted wax.

Our appointments at The Point Clinic cost £55. If no wax is found we will complete an ear health check consultation with full aftercare advice which costs £30

A build up of wax can present itself in different ways: Hearing loss, increased tinnitus, a feeling of fullness in the ear, discharge from the ear, unpleasant smell from the ear, pain and dizziness

Our main location is at The Point Clinic, just off the A12 in Colchester (20 minutes from Ipswich). We also serve residential care homes across Essex and Suffolk.

My name is Lydia and I am the director of The Essex and Suffolk Ear Wax Clinic. After graduating University, I began my training to become an advanced micro suction specialist in 2021 and finishing in 2022 at S P Care Clinic LTD Ear care & Audiology Services. I decided to further my experience and expertise by completing a perceptorship at Welling Ear Clinic where I still work 3 days a week, serving the community of South East London and Dartford. I have always been a compassionate and caring person, so a career where I can improve people’s every day lives and be able to care for each of my patients individually was an obvious choice for me. My main value for The Essex and Suffolk ear wax clinic is trust and I make sure each of my patients feel that they can trust me with their health and are most importantly, wholeheartedly cared for.
