Ear Wax Removal Colchester

Microsuction ear wax removal stands as the top method for clearing excess wax from the ear. Wax buildup can strike anyone, at any age or moment. Ear wax often exits the body on its own, yet it may require extra help at times. Patients come from near and far for our expert microsuction service.

This method employs a binocular microscope for wax removal. It provides clear depth and zoom to peer right into the ear canal. Our team applies a slim, clean suction tool at gentle pressure to extract the wax.

From time to time, we might add other tools for stubborn wax. The approach lets us keep a clear view of our work. It prevents contact with the canal’s skin, boosting comfort. NICE guidelines endorse microsuction as the safest option for wax removal. It beats syringing or irrigation in key ways:

  • It works even with a perforated eardrum.
  • It’s fine during outer or middle ear infections.
  • Risks stay much lower than with irrigation or syringing.
  • High zoom enables sharp views and exact care.

We’ve seen rising need for microsuction. Many family doctors no longer offer it.

FACTS ABOUT EAR WAX

Lets talk about wax

Our ears clean themselves naturally. Skin moves outward from the eardrum’s centre. It carries away wax, bacteria, and dead skin cells. This process slows with age. The ear canal may also narrow. Cartilage and skin in its outer third tighten up. Wax production stays about the same. But colds, flu, and upper respiratory infections can speed it up.

Cerumen, or ear wax, plays a key role. It helps prevent dust and dirt from entering the ears. This natural material shields the ear canal’s sensitive lining. It fights off bacteria, fungal infections, and water.

sometimes, our bodies make too much ear wax. This can lead to an excessive buildup. Which if ignored or left untreated, it can lead to hearing loss, dizziness, itchiness, and sometimes pain.

By having ear wax safely and correctly removed by one of our professionals, you are ensuring the protection of your ear canal, as well as improved hearing.

You can also book an appointment for ear wax removal in Colchester at our clinic. With Saturday and weeknight appointments its convenient for anyone to access.

Earwax Removal FAQ

Ear microsuction entails the use of a gentle vacuum machine to leave the ear free of wax. Our ear wax removal specialists use a microscope that allows us to see clearly into the ear to carry out the procedure. The end results for the patient are better hearing and cleaner ears.

Microsuction should not cause any pain or discomfort. However, due to the sensitive nature of the ear canal, extra care is taken to avoid touching the surface so as to prevent discomfort. No anaesthetic or analgesia is generally used to perform the procedure. The suction can sound relatively noisy. If you have an ear infection or inflammation in the ear canal, the procedure may be slightly uncomfortable.

Its a very quick procedure, normally taking only around 15 minutes to complete. In very few difficult cases more than one appointment may be needed due to the nature of extremely hard impacted wax.

Our appointments at The Point Clinic cost £55. If no wax is found we will complete an ear health check consultation with full aftercare advice which costs £30

A build up of wax can present itself in different ways: Hearing loss, increased tinnitus, a feeling of fullness in the ear, discharge from the ear, unpleasant smell from the ear, pain and dizziness

Our main location is at The Point Clinic, just off the A12 in Colchester (20 minutes from Ipswich). We also serve residential care homes across Essex and Suffolk.

My name is Lydia and I am the director of The Essex and Suffolk Ear Wax Clinic. After graduating University, I began my training to become an advanced micro suction specialist in 2021 and finishing in 2022 at S P Care Clinic LTD Ear care & Audiology Services. I decided to further my experience and expertise by completing a perceptorship at Welling Ear Clinic where I still work 3 days a week, serving the community of South East London and Dartford. I have always been a compassionate and caring person, so a career where I can improve people’s every day lives and be able to care for each of my patients individually was an obvious choice for me. My main value for The Essex and Suffolk ear wax clinic is trust and I make sure each of my patients feel that they can trust me with their health and are most importantly, wholeheartedly cared for.
